Jaeger-Unitek Sealing Solutions, Inc. is a trusted partner for effective sealing solutions. Situation:

Jaeger-Unitek was faced with the need to become fully certified in ISO 50001 by year-end 2023. They had limited time of just under 18 months to complete our goal, which included setting up the funding application, funding approval, comprehensive training, system setup and implementation, and audit certification.  The task was daunting as they had no previous ISO 50001 knowledge or experience.

Solution:  

Jaeger-Unitek reached out to Purdue MEP to ask if there were any programs and assistance the Center could provide to address some of their needs and concerns. Purdue MEP not only helped with needed background information, but they also started the funding application process and walked Jaeger-Unitek through step by step. Believing Purdue MEP could help with much, if not all of their needs, the Center promptly set up a consultant for the implementation of the services. Purdue MEP truly partnered with Jaeger-Unitek to provide a complete and comprehensive ISO 50001 certification and training package.

Results:

The result of partnering with Purdue MEP on the ISO 50001 certification project was outstanding. Through the diligent efforts and guidance from Purdue MEP, Jaeger-Unitek was able to fully secure a state-funded grant to help cover almost all of the funding to cover all of the activities. They were provided with comprehensive hands-on training and a complete comprehensive and sustainable process system. Jaeger-Unitek received their full certification on time and within budget in December of 2023. 

Results metrics:

• Annual savings of $4,500 - Reduced compressed air consumption via pressure analysis
• Conducted comprehensive compressed air leak audit and repair for an annual potential savings of $18,000
• Indoor LED Lighting conversion for the entire facility for annual savings of over 675,000 kwh per year
• Outdoor LED Lighting conversion cut annual energy usage by over one-half
• Cost savings of $50,000 due to acquired state funding for training

“Our company was faced with the task of providing full implementation and certification for the ISO 50001 standard by year-end 2023, under 18 months from start to finish. Having very limited knowledge of the certification and where to obtain assistance we reached out Ed Burrow at Purdue MEP because they had provided great service in the past with other smaller manufacturing training initiatives. Ed was a responsive and engaging resource from the onset and felt Purdue MEP could fully help with our initiative. He immediately led us step by step championing us through the process to help obtain needed state grant funding. Simultaneously we were introduced to ISO consultant Ted Boehm of Purdue MEP.  Upon receipt of our funding, Purdue MEP and Ted Boehm were very prepared and ready to go with a very comprehensive and well-executed timing plan for success.   

Over the next 12 months, we were guided step by step through a methodical and comprehensive plan starting with knowledge learning, brainstorming, training, full system structure formulation, certified auditor training, gap analysis, and system implementation. Ted was fully engaged with our staff throughout the entire process and was ever present both on-site and remotely whenever we had questions, concerns, or needed additional guidance truly making a difficult and daunting process significantly easier and efficient. With Ted’s help, we were able to implement an enviable system set up for long-term success.  Not only did we receive our desired outcome of full certification on time, but we also received glowing remarks from the ISO auditor on how nicely structured our system was set up and how easy it was to audit. Ted’s ownership and commitment to our company for this project was outstanding, consistently providing confidence and positive reassurance throughout the process.  In the future, we will not consider other projects like this one without going through Purdue MEP.”
